Introduction

Managing the DNS of a domain is essential for directing traffic to desired services such as the website, email, or other applications. In this article, we will go through the necessary steps to access and modify DNS records directly from the Hostico client account.

Requirements

It is necessary for the domain for which DNS management is desired to be active and to use Hostico nameservers. Otherwise, changes will not be possible.

Steps

After logging into the Hostico client account, we will access the Domains section from the left sidebar menu:

Domenii Hostico

In the domain list, we identify the desired domain and access the Actions menu associated with it. Then we select the DNS Zone option.

Important - For any Cloud DNS settings to be functional, you will first need to change the Name Servers to those corresponding to the Cloud DNS service:

nsa.hostico.ro

nsb.hostico.ro
nsc.hostico.ro
nsd.hostico.ro

In the new open interface, the active DNS records for the selected domain will be displayed.

The following types of DNS records can be modified independently:

  • A – Links the domain to an IPv4 address, indicating which server the traffic should be directed to.
  • AAAA – Similar to the A record, but for IPv6 addresses.
  • CNAME – Links a subdomain to another domain, acting as an alias. The subdomain will inherit the DNS configurations of the target domain.
  • MX – Defining the mail servers responsible for receiving messages.
  • TXT – Used for security checks, email authentication, and other advanced configurations.
  • SPF – Part of the email security policy, helps prevent spoofing.

To add a new record, we will select the Add Record button, fill in the corresponding fields (name, type, value, TTL), and then confirm the change.

All changes will become active after DNS propagation, a process that can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours, depending on the internet service providers involved.

On the right side of the screen, there is a window dedicated to displaying general information regarding the active DNS settings for the domain. If you want to redirect the DNS zone to an external platform, such as Shopify or Google, this can be easily done through the action menu available in the interface.

Note

  • Any incorrect modification of the DNS records can lead to the interruption of the functioning of the website or email. If you are unsure about the changes made, we recommend contacting the Hostico support team.
  • If the domain does not use Hostico nameservers, it is necessary to manage the DNS directly from the panel of the provider where they are configured.
